Atreia[]
Created by the god Aion, Atreia was a hollow world connected by the Tower of Eternity, the physical embodiment of Aion's presence that stretched throughout the center of the planet.
Eventually, the Tower was destroyed in a battle between the Empyrean Lords and the Balaur. The destruction of the Tower shattered the connection that held the two halves of Atreia together, and the world began to fall apart. However, two Empyrean Lords gave their life to banish the Balaur and lock the two halves of Atreia in place. This destruction would be known as the Great Cataclysm.
By that time, the damage had already been done. The top half of the world became known as Asmodae, a harsh and cruel world filled with shattered remains and no sunlight. The bottom half became Elysea, a beautiful paradise that was blessed with radiant sunlight. As the Empyrean Lords split up, they each took control of one of these halves, and began to rebuild their lives.
However, fate would not allow them to remain isolated. The Abyss that had formed between the two halves proved to have mystical powers, and opened portals to new lands in this dark abyss. Granting both sides powers previously thought lost, such as flight, these portals and gateways allowed the Elyos and Asmodian to go to war, each blaming the rival faction for the destruction of the Tower of Eternity, leading to a 750 year conflict.
As time went on, portals into the Abyss became more and more common. Adventurers began to discover castles located within floating shards of the planet, and discovered something far more terrifying in the process -- the Balaur. The bane of all races had been imprisoned in the Abyss for centuries, but had now found a way to escape. With that, the future of the shattered remains of Atreia became all the more unclear.
